Geoffrey Leckie - personale
Mostre, Venezia, 05 June 2010
J. Geoffrey Leckie was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1949. He studied at the University of Virginia School of Architecture and School of Art. Drawing and Painting trumped Engineering and he left to go to New York and study at The Art Students League. There he enrolled in courses with Robert Beverly Hale, Sidney Dickinson and, principally, Frank Mason. He maintained a studio in New York for thirty years and moved to Venice ten years ago. Though always drawn to travel and painting, he has expanded his horizons since moving to Venice. Where once he travelled and painted in the United States and Ireland, France and Italy, he has most recently painted in Romania,
India, Morocco, Vietnam, and Syria. His paintings are characterized by an overwhelming interest in the effects of light, shadow and atmosphere. Though greatly influenced by his instructor, he was initially drawn to the work of George Inness and Mr. Whistler. His work can be found in public and private collections in the United States and Europe.
