Surfacing

McEwen's paintings explore the juxtaposition of the figure and water. The resulting portrayals, enhanced by the surface of the water or through reflections, perhaps reveal a darker side, an alter ego, or even a secret desire - emotions that we can relate to and recognise in ourselves, and others.
