Should dogs be allowed on the sofa? Has the dog owner and dog inter-relationship become to entwined. Who needs who? Does the human still have the power over the 'dumb animal' or does the dog rule the human. As the idea of the 'companion dog' becomes more acceptable in modern life are we allowing a beast to take over our hearts and homes? Through the art work I hope to examine the 'emotional' relationship between humans and dogs, the ways this has been represented in art and new ways in which it could be represented. Of particular concern is the power relationship between adored pet and the human owner withthe 'right' to exert power over the 'dumb animal', as well as the power of the 'dumb animal' over its 'master' in getting the dog's needs met.
