Biografia
After obtaining an Air Force diploma in photography in 1980, Neville joined the daily newspapers in Pretoria as a photojournalist, covering everything from sporting events, to celebrities, human-interest assignments, and the hard political news stories of the time.
He covered a lot of political unrest and township violence and experienced first hand indescribable destruction, during the riots in the period before democracy.
During this era, Neville won the 1988 title of Illford Press Photographer of the year, was appointed as official photographer for the 1991 Miss World finalist tour to South Africa, and the 1995 Rugby World Cup Chief Liaison for photographers, SA.
After he left the press, Neville freelanced and joined the Technikon Pretoria as staff photographer and occasional lecturer. As a freelancer he concentrated mostly on industrial photography.
Lately, Neville has been privately working on several heritage projects to capture something of local industries, which is fast disappearing or transforming, losing their historic era character. He combines his compassion and keen sense of ‘moment’ with his eye for industrial form and detail into what can only be described as surprisingly beautiful and poignant images.
