Biografia

Gian Giacomo Stiffoni, was born in Seville (Spain) in 1967. In 1970 he moved to Italy with his family and in 1973 he settled in Venice where he graduated in modern literature with a final thesis in musicology at the University Ca 'Foscari of Venice in 1993.

As a photographer, he took courses in 2005 and 2006 at the Institute of Zaragoza "Spectrum Sotos" and attended workshops in architectural photography with Pino Musi (2009) and in staged photo with Massimo Agus (2010). He had exhibitions in Zaragoza, Corigliano Calabro, Chiasso (Max Museo), San Miniato and Florence.

He works on personal photo projects and on commissions related to urban landscape, architecture and industry photography and he frequently collaborates with Gabriele Basilico as his assistant. He carried out research projects on Venice, Turin, Ancona, Senigallia, Ravenna, Chiasso, Biarritz, San Sebastian, Valencia and Zaragoza.

In 2013 he was among the nominees for the best architectural and people photography (section amateurs) in the 6th Photography Masters Cup with the photos "The house of the tress" and "Big and Small". In the same year he was among the nominees for the best architectural photography in the 8th Black &Withe Spider Awards withe the photos "Curves" and "Pinacoteca Giovanni & Marella Agnelli".

From 1999 to 2004, he wrote articles and film reviews for the newspaper "Carte di Cinema" of which he was also editor. In 2002, he wrote an article about music in the films of Hau Hsiao-Hsien for the publishing house Le Mani.

From 2000 to 2006, he was professor of Music History, History of the Opera and Musical criticism at the University of La Rioja (Logroño, Spain). As a musicologist he studies the reception and production of Italian opera in Vienna, Venice, Naples, Spain and Portugal during the eighteenth century. In 2008, he published an introduction to the new edition of the Goldoni' Intermezzi for the publisher Marsilio. Since 2005 he has been working regularly with the La Fenice theater to the preparation of texts for theater programs and from 2008 as a music critic for the Spanish magazine "Audio Clásica".

Gian Giacomo Stiffoni now lives and works in Venice.
