Biografia

I am an artist living and working in Tel Aviv and NYC. I am a graduate of Hamidrasha School of Art at Beit Berl College in Israel and acquired my Masters degree in museology from Reinwardt Academy in Amsterdam. My works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions at established galleries and venues in Israel and abroad. In 2010 I won the first prize in the “Art and Business” category at the international Arte Laguna competition held in Venice and consequently, two of my paintings appear on the labels of a special edition of boutique wines from the Genagricola Estate vineyard. I am currently working independently and am one of the selected artists in the prestigious “@60" - the Height of Art” project.

Painting is an ongoing journey of discovery and development. For me, it is always an intimate process involving the materials, the setting and myself. While I'm the creator and the conductor of my art, randomness plays a major part as well: the color, the flow of liquid paint and the textures created on the damped canvas are both exciting and inspiring for me, and might, at times, take the leading role. I paint intuitively, and let the paint seep into the painting, creating a micro-cosmos of personal experiences projected outward.

My paintings are abstract, yet contain hints of figuration, mostly organic, optic or nature oriented. They send an open invitation to experience and investigate them and the process of their creation. The emotional experience of the spectator may be the strongest motivation to explore them, but, at other times, it is the mystery of the technique or the story captured in the painting, awaiting to be revealed.

Over the years my work has been inspired by many great artists. Among the painters that influenced me the most are Mark Rothko, for creating fantastic worlds of color, inviting the spectators to travel in them; Morris Louis, for his large scale ravishing canvases in which intense colors are absorbed and drip, only partly controlled and restrained; Matisse for his majestic color scheme, the flattening of images and the 'sounds' that one may hear when viewing his works; and Lea Nickel, an Israeli artist, for her uniquely sweeping color compositions.
