“Mutant” is a series of self-portraits as gay comic book characters. I use performance in prosthetic make up and costume to explore the homophobic and hetero-normative discourse of the genre. By embodying the effeminate, the sinister and perverted and the diseased and contagious I explore not just crude, stereotypical representations of homosexuality but also the norms and values that underpin them.
