In every work of Eveline Mooibroek ‘the living’ is frozen in an alienating manner. We’re not immediately sure what we’re seeing.
Mooibroek’s other work - installations, large photographs, paintings and some works of word and sound – also seems to be inspired by the ‘freezing in time’ of life. There are still lives of animals, butterflies, plants, humans, body parts of humans and animals, toys and meat. In various ways, the transformation and manipulation of appearances of ‘the natural’ has been present in her work, right from the start of her artistic career.
