My works are portraying fragments and motives of the topography of destructed landscapes and vanishing ecosystems of our time
I remember holding in my hands the first National Geographic Magazine in 1989, when I was 11. This is how I saw my first satellite photo of earth. It was the pure impression of beauty of colors and composition. Sure I had no idea of the content and it was not important at the time, but later it changed my life in many ways.
My latest exhibition “Impression. Destruction.” is inspired by the aerial and satellite photos depicting environmental disasters of the last 50 years.
I call my works „the technique of impressions“ or „the technique of creating alternative impressions“. I think that environmental messaging works better when it is hidden under the first impression of composition and color. People are becoming more and more immune from the direct or explicit environmental messaging, because there seems to be too little art in it.
Beauty of composition and color in my works serves as an invitation to a dialogue about environmental issues. I believe in viewers motivation to go further, take this extra step, to find out more about the story beyond color and composition.
