John A. Giemzik III -Artist Statement
I have always been at war with negative space. Doodling my doodles on note pads, napkins, text books, toilet stalls, whatever would accept my ink. It wasn't until my mid-twenties that I started working on a larger scale with more archive friendly materials.
Any social, political or cultural stand my work seems to take on, is purely coincidental. I honestly do not think about these things while I am creating. I just turn off all the filters and pour my ungoverned brain onto the blank paper. I do this until I get to a certain point (unknown to me), only then do I worry about balance, structure, etc. By working this way I don't think staying relevant will be an issue. Pure imagination is always relevant.
I experiment quite often with a variety of materials but I am still most comfortable with a Sharpie in one hand and a glass of whiskey in the other.
My imagination appears to be boundless and my technical skills are beginning to amaze even me. I can't wait to see what's next on this crazy cool ride.
