Biografia

Doug Tausik was born in New York City in 1954 to artist parents. His education started at the Rudolf Steiner School – an institution that believes in educating invisible forces of the mystical kind, the so-called astral plane. He went on to study at the Art Student's League in New York, a more traditional training grounded in the study of the human figure. In Tausik's current work, he effortlessly combines both of these influences. What makes his sculpture interesting is the way in which his particular life story appears to be the result of a series of forces that have impacted his life and, now, are the focus of his artistic practice. His sculpture is organic in form or, as Tausik would put it, a matter-of-fact representation of the invisible forces that affect a body as it undergoes forces of transition. The work is gorgeously sensational amoeboid sculptures that most obviously represent attraction, as they beg to be touched. Of course, when rubbed, they are subjected to another force: erosion. This means that the sculptures, like a body, are never finished, but constantly evolving and always recreated every time a person comes into contact with them.
