My name is Cristina Canas and I am a full time Contemporary Abstract & Mixed Media Artist. Beauty is the most vital aspect of life & art to me, and it is my desire to beautify, my surroundings...
At a very early age I began to design and sew my own clothes; and I always enjoyed decorating, painting, and renovating, homes for myself, friends & family.
I do not define myself by what others think, and do not follow many of the traditional rules or formal constraints of art theory. I give myself free license to work and to experiment with uncommon and unusual materials, textures and vibrant colors; Creativity and Imagination are my strength.
I begin a piece by having a vision and idea in my head, but then I let my intuition and inspiration take full control, and maybe it takes a day, a week or a month to finish it.
When my work is going well, I am filled with a sense of excitement and happiness and satisfaction and I know the piece is completed, when I look at it and I can feel the vision I had came true, it expresses it exactly.
When people see my work, I'd like them to participate by exploring the idea behind the image and become magically involved in the colors and textures.
My paintings are inspired by social and spiritual relationships, places I visit and by my day by day.
My work reflects love of nature and the Buddhist philosophy; I see it as an imaginative reflection of past and present impressions, moods and vibrations. It comes from the soul and therefore it speaks to the soul, it is an expression of my gratitude for the creation.
It contains my dreams, my hopes and my love of nature, to our planet and the universe; it is a reflection of my inner world."
To be distinctive and unconventional is and was always important to me and I consider this period my experimental development stage.
