Biografia
Born in New Cross, London, across the road from Goldsmiths, so I guess the writing was on the cards early on for an artistic path. Being brought up in an urban environment I sought refuge in makeshift camps cobbled together under the shelter of trees bordering wasteland close to where I lived, an ideal backdrop for playing out childhood fantasies and make-believe.
For as long as I can remember my first love has been firmly rooted in drawing and painting, however it wasn’t until well into adulthood that I visited an exhibition in Cork Street and had my ‘eureka’ moment.
My passion for paint and my wider artistic practice have since taken over my life. I have been fortunate to visit many exhibitions over the years following this exhibition and have been greatly inspired by many artists, including Peter Doig, David Whittaker and Francis Bacon and more recently by Gordon Cheung’s paintings of post-apocolyptic worlds.
These last few months have seen a change in direction from the exploration of images of distopia and utopia, towards themes concerning the light and shade of humanity. Sparked by childhood memories and personal experiences they have expanded to reflect issues that affect the society in which we live today.
