Biografia
The thematic of “mapping the human skin” determines my recent work and approaches it, in different ages and in relevance with the environmental space. Observing closely the human skin I find very interesting its texture and I am trying to depict it in a more abstract way. I am interested in the slow build-up of the surface through multiple layers and I pay close attention to gradations in tone and texture. My decision to occupy with the specific topics comes from a deeper necessity to map human hypostasis. The human skin in my artwork contradicts to the “porcelain skin” that we see on the magazine covers. I am trying to force the viewer into a deeper examination of one’s appearance of the human skin and the beauties inherent within. Through the materiality of my painting, I am interested in depicting the perfection and imperfections of the human skin as a realistic view of the body which many women grown ashamed of. I use imprints that heavily landed on my canvas; in a similar way that a lot of women add in their bodies silicon implants in order to change their image. My images are an illusion that stems from contemporary society’s standard of the “ideal beauty”.
