To begin with I model a Perfect Form in clay or earth. I consider Space, Negative Space, Weight, Balance, Light, Tone, Scale and Proportion; and then I make a mould, normally out of silicon rubber.
Once I have the mould I start to add layers of meaning, by Warping the mould, by the materials I choose to cast the positive in, or the number I produce.
I continue to add meaning by bringing together different casts, I see this as a form of Drawing, juxtaposing differing casts to develop a narrative.
Once the structure is complete I decorate the surface using a variety of mark making techniques.
The final narrative, I believe, is the dialogue between the underlying structure and the superficial decoration.
