I create unique handmade ceramic sculpture and I am based in Bristol, UK.
The concept behind my ceramic sculpture is born from my observations with the Historic English Heritage monument Stonehenge as this provokes and inspires a deep fascination for me. This is because to this day its purpose and meaning still largely remains unknown. It forces myself to learn anew and ask questions. Therefore I do not intend to replicate its presence in any way but use this as a foundation to generate ideas around construction, imagination, possibility and curiosity, all of which are a response to my research with this monument.
I would like my sculpture to invite new ways of seeing and experiencing and to also allow each viewer to interpret the work differently. Additionally I would like the work to give the viewer the opportunity to discover their own curiosity of what these artworks might mean. It is hoped my work can inspire the perceptions people have about seeing the world around them.
It is these ideas that I embody within the ceramic sculptures I create.
My sculpture develops from a construction. Depending on the type of sculpture being made the making process can consist of a combination of singular components thrown on the potter’s wheel using traditional throwing skills combined with hand-building techniques or individual parts. I commonly apply coloured slips and glaze to the forms to create depth and contrast.
