Biografia

I was born and raised on a ranch in Casper, Wyoming. It probably sounds cliché, but I have been taking pictures since I was old enough to hit the button on a camera. On family road trips I was in charge of the video camera and film cameras. I have always had a profound obsession with the concept that the camera freezes time. It allows you to capture that moment and relive it as many times as you want or need. Be that family portraits, street captures, or the lovely landscape images showcasing the country’s beauty. With that in mind, I have spent time photographing weddings, family portraits, rodeos, sporting events, in big cities, in little cities, in no cities…in the wilderness, on rivers, out of rivers, and lakes too. I am on a photographic journey that seems more intent on the wilderness and the raw beauty it can provide. I have an undergraduate degree in Architectural Engineering and a Masters in Structural Engineering. I spent my graduate thesis on concrete. We are best friends. I am self-taught in photography and I will never claim to be an expert, only passionate. If there is one thing graduate school teaches – it is the ability to teach oneself. Since I have worked as an engineer, I love Dilbert and I hate comic sans.
I love Ansel Adams, Bryan Peterson. Ansel Adams defined the craft in a way one has since. His ability to create the one with nature images he did in his time are truly awe inspiring. And humbling. Bryan Peterson is a great source of inspiration and teaching. His teaching style truly breaks you down to what makes each of us tick and I learned more from his book musings about seeing color and the world than I have anywhere else. I love Bryan’s passion for finding images everywhere.
I love to travel and I am currently working through images from a two week vacation and early honeymoon there. I am also in the middle of moving from the small town USA to Rural USA when we move from Mountain View, to our cabin/new home in the High Uinta Mountains. Mountains are in my blood, and I am very excited to be amongst them 24 hours a day soon.
My most complete body of work at this point encompasses wildlife images, travel images and nature settings from places far and wide. I am always learning and striving to be better than I was yesterday and trying mediums/subjects I haven’t before. So I always try to be an improvement in process.
