Biografia
Jean Paul langlois is a Metis artist who paints from his home studio in east Vancouver. Influenced by pop art, neo-expressionism and Saturday morning cartoons, he paints large canvasses in heavily saturated contrasting colours. Subject matter is informed by cinema, especially westerns. The genre overflows its origins in visual and written narrative, the codes and iconography universal. While themes examined include violence and racism, the images are often bright and beautiful. His “Fake Indians” series look at the misrepresentation of indigenous people in film and television as well as alienation from his own aboriginal heritage.
