Biografia

Selva Barni is Fantom’s originator and director. Besides her activities as curator, she works as editorial and photography consultant for companies and publishing houses. She is a lecturer at the Master in Photography and Visual Design organized by Milan’s New Academy of Fine Arts (NABA). Previously, she freelanced as photography editor and photographer in New York and Milan. Fantom was born between Milan and New York in 2009, with the publication of a quarterly magazine and a number of books, distributed in over 20 countries. In 2012, after the release of 10 issues of the magazine, the project evolved to become a curatorial collective that carries on its investigation on the uses and abuses of photography. Since then, Fantom has continued to publish books and produce exhibitions, including solo shows by Raed Yassin, Mario Milizia, Ruth van Beek, and Taisuke Koyama; the special projects of Batia Suter and Maurizio Anzeri for Miart 2014 and 2015; and Les Rencontres Internationales de la Photo de Fès 2014. From May 2015 Fantom is in charge of the programme of the newly-established contemporary art gallery Viasaterna, Milano. The inaugural exhibition, Picture Perfect: On the Virality of Photography, included works by Hans Peter Feldmann, Joe Hamilton, Anna Kristensen, Mario Milizia, Taisuke Mohri, Macoto Murayama, Shuichi Nakano, Wieland Payer, Annalisa Pintucci, Wang Qiang and Lorenzo Vitturi.
