Biography

Maelström Art Gallery was opened in 2010, with the primary goal of selecting and promoting young, talented artists who work with a series of different styles, techniques and materials, thus offering an important and interesting cross-section of modern art, in a creative fluctuation between the figurative and the abstract, the conceptual and the disengaged.

The gallery took on the name “Maelstrom” one evening in early autumn when, with the inspiration of a clear blue and charcoal sky, and from the folds of the memory, the vibrant notes of a short story by Edgar Allan Poe emerged – “A Descent into the Maelström”, painted in vivid beauty, before it was even a short story. The “Maelström” (a naturally-forming water vortex formation characteristic of the Lofoten Islands) becomes, through the inspiration of the talented penmanship of Poe, a giant whirlwind of water, a fascinating and inexorable road of no return, capable of hauling everything along with it in its wake. And within it…

And just like Poe’s vortex, Maelström Art Gallery intends to engulf newcomers, admirers, private collectors and institutional investors alike in the fascinating vortex of modern art.

Initially located in the historic district of Brera in Milan, in 2012 Maelström Art Gallery chose to broaden and to galvanize its scope, developing into an “itinerant gallery” with no fixed location, so as to be present each time in different locations and in different cities, increasing the exposure of its artists and presenting them before new contexts and stimuli.

In its first few years of activity, the gallery has taken part in numerous art fairs and has organized numerous solo and group exhibitions for its artists, who, meanwhile, have learned to stand out and to make themselves heard at significant national and international events, receiving excellent acclaim from the public and critics alike.

Finally, the Gallery offers a specialized Art Advisory service, which is not limited to advice in the sale of art works, but in fact branches out to various sectors of the art world. It offers assistance in favour of trusts and mutual funds that invest in art, art banking, appraisal of collections and / or individual works, management of loans to museums, foundations and private institutions, practices, imports / exports, etc.
