Biography

Gianfranco Basso was born in Lecce in 1978. He attended the painting course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and graduated in 2009. Over the years he developed an intense passion for photography and sculpture; from there, his research explores the relationship between space and individual. The "individuals" in his works seem to get lost in an infinite void but still tending to a "place", a space in which live, think and exist. In these works we perceive the importance of this vacuum that surrounds the subject as something living, an entity from which branches ideation, feelings and inventions.
Low in 2011 received the first prize "Colors in concert", the national painting competition. The following year he obtained the Jury Prize to "The International Biennale - City of Lecce" and in 2015 a special mention for the Visible White (2015) Photo Prize for 4th edition - Familydom of CELESTE PRIZE. Finalist ART AWARD at Cairo Editore, Finalist ART AWARD ELEA, Finalist CELESTE PRIZE 2015, Finalist DONKEY PRIZE III.
