Biography
Michele Pierpaoli, born in Fano in 1985, graduated in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts of Urbino in 2010. He presently works as a lithographic technician in various locations throughout the Marche region.
Since 2008 he has shown his works in both personal and collective exhibitions.
In 2009 he won the Under-25 title in the Aldo Roncaglia Biennial Painting Competition held in S. Felice (Modena) and in the same year he also received a “Special Mention” in the Co.Co.Co., Como Contemporary Contest. In 2011 he was among those selected to exhibit in the Marche region section within the Italian Hall of the 54th Venice Biennial International Art Exhibition.
Through the use of the white transparency of tissue paper and the black of ink, he builds, with an incised mark, complex imagery.
Images, symbols and signs with a notable graphic imprint, forming second and third levels, creating a narrative flow where the black and white drawing becomes a method for analysing reality. On light and changing surfaces Pierpaoli carves images and signs, alternating nature with the artificial.
Presences and absences, figures, semblances of things, small veiled tricks, uncovered and brought back on the surface of the paper, alternate between each other in a continuity that demands a first, second and third reading.
Pierpaoli passes through shapes and images without binding himself to any one of them and with detached continuity builds the piece.
The work simulates itself and imitates the processes of its own creation in a knowing absence of limelight-seeking, suggesting yet not imposing.
