Biography
A native of New Jersey who now lives in coastal Mississippi, Judi Altman merges the architectural influences of her youth with the sensual natural elements of her adopted home into a personal vision that has been recognized by juries from Birmingham to Budapest. Athlete and scholar, wife and mother, she finds at just the right moments the passion and energy to capture what she sees. Travel, family, and nature all compete for lens time, and Judi is equally adept at color and black and white representations. Chosen for both Fine Art and Contemporary shows worldwide, she has garnered awards in every place up to the coveted Best in Show. Versatility and adaptability mark her style, showing in one moment the glory and fluidity of nature and in a sharp turn, the clash and patterns in the presence of humankind.
Trained as an attorney, Judi has a structured legal mind sometimes at odds with her artistic sensibilities. This juxtaposition gives her work an interesting pace and an inquisitive flair. Living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast during and after Hurricane Katrina, Judi and her husband are both patrons and participants in the local arts community. She serves on several charitable boards and is committed to rebuilding and preserving the essence of her chosen hometown.
