Biography
When I see things in nature including human bodies and figures,
some part of lines and shapes often disappear into space surrounding them
just like things standing in the bright light all around.
I have been trying to capture it, this way, that way, in my art for so long
without knowing what it actually is or is happening.
After years of experience and experiments, the idea of applying the Qi concept for my art came to me a few years back because I had realized what I have been feeling is Qi, life energy, either floating or residing in all matters and human mind. When they mingle together harmoniously even in chaotic circumstances, I see the beauty. And, when that is realized on the artwork, viewers will see its beauty as well. That’s how I came to understand my aesthetic.
So, I have tried to get the reality in my art as I see the Qi flowing in and around the portrait figures.
I call it, Qi Realism. In Qi concept, bipolar characteristics like: Yin and Yang, In and Out, fake and real, painting/2dimentionality and sculpture/3 dimensionality, movement and stillness, and light and shadow.
I utilize anything and any concept fitting with the subject matter.
Qi is strongly felt when something moves suddenly in the stillness.
That’s how I start using human hair. I see the energy’s flow in its movement.
One property of Qi is like quantum entanglement: invisible, intangible, and mysterious. When you think you found it, it disappears and re‐appears somewhere else.
That is why I understand my journey to capture the Qi will continue for as long as I live and as long as human life continues to exist.
