Biography

Applications are being accepted until February 15, 2015 for the Terra Vivente Art Studio for July and August 2015 residencies. The studio is situated in rural Campania, in the historical heart of Guardia Sanframondi. It provides an opportunity for a small group of artists to come together, exchange ideas and make work in response to the atmosphere of the area, whether it be the landscape or the community. The town, set on a hill overlooking the valley, is flanked by picturesque mountains. The valley is filled with vineyards; this is genuine wine-making country, but without the tourists. It is an hour and a half from Naples, by car, bus or train. There are interesting villages nearby, such as Cerreto Sannita, just a few minutes away, known for its hand-painted ceramics, or Benevento, a historic town of religious significance. Telese Terme, in the valley below Guardia, is a mineral spa town and has a fascinating market every Saturday. Throughout the summer, there are festivals, including Vinalia, a week-long festival in Guardia in August that celebrates the local wine. The studio and accommodation are in a building in the historical centre of Guardia, in a venerable stone building that has been lovingly restored. There are two-bedroom furnished apartments to be shared by the artists, and a shared studio with a separate entrance. There is a terraced garden adjoining the building, adding to the several common spaces where artists can relax, contemplate, discuss, and create.
