Biography
My name is Inge Schagen, I am an artist from Amsterdam, specialized in oil-painting.
Theme in my work for the past few years is holidays. I try to depict people, who pose proudly at the beach, in the Alps or in Venice. It is a strange environment to them, they feel a little dislocated. The figures date from last century, they don't live anymore. Yet, we all know persons like them, they are in our collective minds as members of our families. I like to study the strange tension of these situations and catch it in an image. Tourists are always there for a short time, than moving. They take each others’ places. The famous spot where the tourist takes his picture, stays the same all the time. The people are moving.
