Biography
Samir Parker is an artist and designer based in Mumbai, India. Through drawing and writing he seeks out the secret lives of the city by reimagining its talismans. Engaging with the mythic spaces within the cities we inhabit, he attempts to chart how the future is shaped by hope and desire; our fantasies of ourselves and how that awareness shapes our destiny. His work takes the form of graphic narrative installations which create fleeting dreamscapes that pop-up within the city, and for a time becomes this shifting, mysterious setting in which the inhabitants are the dramatis personae. The content of these installations are also being rendered for publication in a pop-up book form.
He has designed installations, exhibitions and publications for Bodhi Art, The London School of Economics, UNICEF and the Venice Biennale. He has collaborated with artists such as Anju Dodiya, Atul Dodiya, Nataraj Sharma, Zarina Hashmi and CAMP. He has been awarded fellowships at Sarai CSDS and the Khoj Studios in New Delhi. He has recently been selected for residencies at the Fonderie Darling in Montreal and the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center. He continues to teach and develop curriculum and outreach at the Faculty of Design, CEPT University Ahmedabad.
