Biography
Matilde Calamai
I use colors to reinterpret the world.
My journey of color and material started on the African continent, which had important spiritual connotations for me, and was also influenced by the time I spent in Japan, and has certainly been impacted by my travels in America, and particularly by New York, where I know live. In my artistic pilgrimage, color slides freely on the canvas, sometimes in a mellow way, sometimes in layers or splashes, or in three-dimensional form. All these elements transform the boundaries of shapes and places in an abstract and subjective manner, on the edge between reality and abstraction. For me, art is an experimental journey, which keeps me researching strong emotions which then mutate into a colored atmosphere.
