Biography

ELISABETE FRANÇA is an architect and urbanist, and has 25 years of experience in urban planning, social housing, slum upgrading, and management of participatory projects. Her PhD thesis is on the slums of São Paulo (1980-2008), from the proposed defavelization to upgrading projects, especially the experience of Guarapiranga program. She is the Social Housing Superintendent and Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Housing Secretariat of São Paulo, where she coordinates the activities of the Slum Upgrading programs, Water Source Program, Cortiço (Slum Tenement) Requalification Program, Social Renting, among others, assisting more than 160, 000 families. Elizabete França is author and editor of several publications on architecture and urbanism, and editorial coordinator of the series New Neighborhoods of São Paulo, edited by Sehab.
