Biography
The artistic experience of Roberta Sotgiu is characterized by the search for an epicentre, an I always put into question, unstable, seeking out an authentic form which allows the self-recognition, the rediscovery and redefinition of self. A clearand analytical thinking which, drawing on the plastic possibilities of color and material, is projected in other worlds, in dreamlike suggestions charged of multiple signs.
Painting search nature in a sort of atavic ritual. The colors are mixed with the blood of the animal, chap and slide down on canvas, or coagulate into points of light, eyes, fireflies into the night. The ritual is sometimes sacrifical, sometimes espiative or initiative, or it results in a reassuring and silent mantra. Sacred art which evokes the unconscious, which give itself up to automatism, which questions about the human obsession for one's own condition ..
These assumptions have now become the starting point of a new survey. In the mirror game a newdisturbing and metamorphic ritual comes to life, and now pictorial material, organic material and psychic material blend and get confused. The figurative element invades the canvas. It attacks and is attacked, baring the meaning of an artistic process that focuses on the losing and brave fragility of thuman being.
