Biography
In his collages ,as well as in his objects and installations, as his basic material Tamer Serbay uses paper.
He then initiates a creative process whereby the paper itself no longer functions as a medium for objects and images, but becomes an art object in its self. Tamer Serbay works with paper because it allows him to visually articulate a dialogue between nature and his own creative abilities. Any unforeseen reactions that occur with this basic material during the creative process are integrated in his work.
Whenever possible he combines paper with natural materials such as wood and iron, which share similar characteristics, in that their transitory nature is made visibly evident during the process of their decay. Tamer Serbay deliberately leaves the materials in an unprotected state in order that they undergo their natural metamorphosis. The influence of nature is of central importance in his artworks, such as the sun, the wind, and the rain. By leaving the installations at the mercy of the elements, nature itself is continually changing and developing what they are, thus letting Mother Nature complete what the artist has offered her.
