Biography
Wyn-Lyn Tan obtained her Diploma in Fine Art from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore), where she majored in Western Painting and minored in Chinese Painting. She received her BA in Fine Art and Bachelor of Business, both from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. She has held numerous exhibitions in Asia and around, and reviews of her work have appeared in The Business Times, The Straits Times and Timeout Singapore, among others. She has received artist residencies at The Arctic Circle Program, Vermont Studio Center Artist Residency, Fiskars Village Artist in Residence in Finland and Red Gate Artist Residency in Beijing, China.
Tan's work explores the concepts of space, layers and ambiguity. Her interest in finding the poetry in any given landscape stems from her intrigue and idealism of the complexity and fragility of nature, particularly in the sense that there is always more than meets the eye. While her paintings are not deliberately about landscapes, they subconsciously hover between nature and abstraction. An East-West influence also reveals Tan’s Chinese sensibilities in her approach to contemporary Western abstraction.
