Biography

Through painting I mean to perform a research on Man, in order to poke into causes and effects of the uneasiness that characterizes and troubles the human nature.

I'm deeply influenced by old paintings, especially Baroque ones, which I study and collect. When I give rise to my works, I usually start from a figurative image, which then I gradually deform and tear down, to free it from any context or identirary confinement. At the same time, my wish to go deeper into subjects pulls me to physically mistreat the pictorial surface, scratching the canvas with brushes or paint scrapers. Then I partially restore features and shapes, largely by applying thin layers of paper and acrylic color. In this way I recompose the physiognomy, certainly deformed but also authentic: this is indeed what I consider to be the most intimate and sincere Man's essence.
