“The future is now.” – Nam June Paik
My work explores ways that we can exist through different realities other than the physical one we are in.
In contemporary society, we are increasingly surrounded by an overload of information; thousands of television channels, the Internet, social networking etc. which can be accessed at any time and anywhere.
In my films and performances, I don’t wish to merely transport my characters from one reality to another as some form of escapism from an alienated existence, but I confuse and overlap the different realities, blurring any dividing lines.
Constantly transferring between these different realities and the physical means they have become a part of who we are, and a part of our existence.
The necessity to embrace new technologies in our fast paced society, and the methods and processes I use in creating my work, reference Nam June Paik's vision of a future in which people would connect and interact through what he termed, the “Electronic Super Highway”.
