Biography
Giovanni Guadagnoli received his degree in literature and philosophy summa cum laude (Sapienza University-Rome). His early photographic production led him to produce portraits in the style of glamour photography, then he turned his attention toward the investigation of surreal images earning the cover of "Progresso fotografico" (May 1991). Since 1992 he has been devoted to analyzing the very medium of photography, and thus has engaged in lengthy studio work, inquiring into perception processes and how, in turn, they are constructed into vision. The fruits of this project garnered him recognition in the journal "Zoom". In 1995 he began a "classical" revisiting of the male nude (exhibit at the "Galleria Babele", Milan, 2004). This work subsequently received two article publications in the international magazine "Blue, Studio Magazine" (2003, 2006). In 1997, in Guadalajara, Mexico, he presented a solo exhibit, "The Light of Memory". This exhibit was comprised of images of Rome, suspended between realism and metaphysical magic. Along with his artistic pursuits, he has also been commissioned as a commercial photographer, including three advertising campaigns for the Armani brand. In 2011 he participated at the first MIA in Milan, with his project “Urbe relativa”, a visualization of an improbable city which relativism and globalization have rendered formally unstable and inorganic. “Landscape - ipotesi” is his most recent project.
