Biography
Pietro Di Girolamo, born in Palermo in 1977, lives in Sicily working on his projects of architecture and developing simultaneously his artistic and photographic researches. He spent his youth in in the “Madonie Park”, where he began the scientific studies. He deepens the study of artistic design and paints some paintings working with Croce Taravella and establishing a fruitful dialogue which focuses on the influence of photography on painting. In his atelier he paints some work based on materials like sheet metal, resins, cements and pigments.
At the same time he begins to study engineering and architecture. He takes part in several architectural international competitions. He graduates in 2003 and in the same year he wins a scholarship that takes him to Berlin where He works for LIN office. The atmosphere of the city leads him to places like Tacheles, where works in photography projects and develops an idea about the installation of flying cubes, suspended in the garden of the complex. He works in Milan and Rome for two years before going back to Sicily, in Palermo, where he opens his own architecture office.
Recently, he has intensified his interest and work in digital photography by developing themes of research on the language of light and the motion of the elements in a fluid state.
His photographic journey faces in a original way also themes concerning nature, cities, people and architecture.
It has recently been awarded with three honour mentions in IPA 2011 and 2012.
In the last years he exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions of photography in various cities of the world.
