Biography
Textural interplay is paramount for me. I use cement and other media to make my painting surface physically irregular. I feel contrasting texture gives heightened visual stimulation, leading one’s eye over the surface while adding an important tactile element. I continue with the development of shade variation to increase attention to the physical depth of the piece. For me, the manipulation of flowing paint has remarkable emotional gravity. The directed tendrils enhance the variation of surface texture while directing the flow of the piece. My colors are chosen to balance the weight of the composition, while also, giving the piece much of its impact. The juxtaposition of color over the rugged surface enhances contrast and is critical in uniting the emotive direction. With this culmination, the eye is guided throughout the piece; from paint to structure, from physical to internal.
