Biography

La Meridiana is a non-profit institution for the advancement of the ceramic arts located in a spectacular Tuscan hilltop setting. Founded in 1981 by Pietro Elia Maddalena, it began as a summer school offering short courses in ceramics. With a reputation for bringing in renowned visiting professors, having impressive course offerings and outstanding facilities, it has become the most important private contemporary ceramic school in all of Italy. The school is dedicated to education in the arts, hosting students from all over the world. LaMeridiana also organizes a well known International Show of Ceramic Sculpture each year “Concreta” where masters of modern ceramics are invited to meet in Certaldo Alto.
