Biography

Riccardo Gilardoni was born in a family boasting an ancient craft tradition. His surroundings gave him the opportunity to see, breathe, touch, and discover an old meaning of working, made of in-depth knowledge of one’s labour. Thus the structure of wood and his own imagination and creativity managed to unveil one another in a long process he got increasingly involved in. An ongoing evolution, respectful of materials, and his persistence in combining the processes of an ancient art with the need to respond to new requirements pervade his works, always unique pieces (cases, bags, ordinary objects, tables, chairs…), never made for their own sake, with the spirit of creations encompassing a small universe, in the attempt to translate objective truth into its space-time relations. Wood, is a proactive entity, processed to enhance its own beauty or sculptured, with a texturized surface to conceal its nature from view, gives him plenty of opportunities to renew his ongoing creative research on volumes and on ever-changing shapes.
