Biography
The interests of Mario D’Angelo (Trapani, 1975) include photography, video, installations and new technologies applied to anthropological, social and environmental themes.
He studied anthropology at Rome’s Sapienza University, photojournalism with Rolando Fava (Ansa) and Paolo Pellegrin (Magnum), cinematographic documentaries with Frederick Wiseman, visual ethnography at ISFCI in Rome.
In 2009 he won the Cantieri Temps d’images of the Romaeuropa Festival, for which he produced a performance and a video installation. In 2004 he ranked first with special mention at the Orvieto Fotografia Professional Photography Award, Reportage category and classified first for the Aldo Nascimben Photography Prize.
Since 2000, he has collaborated with the Teatro Stabile (Resident Theatre) of Florence, the Teatro Stabile of Bolzano, the Teatro di Roma, the Butoh International Academy and with internationally renowned directors and choreographers, publishing with major Italian dailies and trade magazines.
His works have been shown in various galleries and cultural centers in Italy and Spain. His photographic research Animal Science on butoh dance in Sicily and at Mishima, in Japan, has been exhibited in Rome and at Palermo. His exhibition Betrayal and Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, research into the betrayal of television and press information in the 2000s, was displayed at Trapani for Sensi Contemporanei, pre-empting subsequent studies on fake news on social networks. His exhibition project Tonno Subito! / Stay Tuna! on a survey carried out in western Sicily and in Japan is forthcoming in various Mediterranean ports. In 2008 he was in charge of the photography and editing of the short Articolo 28, by Fausto Paravidino for the serial film All Human Rights for All produced by RAI Cinema with the sponsorship of the UN. In 2021 he co-produced un Setting by Pietro Faiella, and was responsible for both photography and editing. The film was selected for the Biografilm Festival. Since 2007 he has photographed traditional Indian dance and music for the FIND Foundation - now Alain Daniélou Foundation - devoting himself to the visual research published in the volume India, Desiderio della Luce, Edition Asieur, published on June 2022.
When he goes sailing he takes care of the storeroom and commits himself to staring at the sea.
