Biography

Michela Palermo (born in 1980) is a documentary and portrait photographer currently based in Napoli (italy).
She graduated from the Full Time General Studies Program at the International Center of Photography in 2008. While at ICP she was awarded an ICP Director's fellowship, and in May 2008 she was chosen as visiting student at the ESNP in Arles (France). Her background is in Political Science. She graduated in the 2006 with a dissertation in Political Thought at the University of Bologna. The study of history, philosophy and politics allowed her to acquire a greater sensitivity to analyze social processes and at the same time the chance to interpret the role of photography in contemporary culture and its possibility as medium of reality. She works as freelance photographer, and in may 2009 she was selected with a the personal project "parfois" by Photoespana for a workshop about Dummy Book with Martin Parr. She is already exhibited in different group shows.
