Biography
My current body of work was produced in response to personally motivated issues and ideas. The aim was to explore these personal issues in 3-Dimensions through the use of everyday objects- responding to and manipulating these in order to create sculptural/installation pieces which evoke memories relating to past experiences and comment on current situations in my life. The idea being, to create a personal narrative, whilst allowing the material qualities of the work to generate a range of associations and emotional responses within the viewer- encouraging every experience of the work to be personal and ensuring constant renewal of meaning with every encounter.
By creating work that is ambiguous it ensures that meaning is never set or fixed, but rather in a state of flux. As humans we crave order, and so the viewer feels compelled to decode it through his/her own personal associations in order to make sense of it all. The artist creates the work, the viewer becomes an active participant in the process of constructing meaning- contributing to the completion of the artwork, and the objects themselves play their part.
