Biography
EQ-AV is a selection of synchronized symbols, a mental machine constructed to perform screaming audiovisual performances.
Using high-tech midi timecoded setup, Zambari aka Filip Tomaszewski, band's only member, plays both visuals and music, assigning sections of video content to parts of rhythmical patterns, played on a drum machine, with a single frame precision. This way it's possible to eliminate audio/visual delays, which are a mayor technical difficulty in most live av works.
Through heavy use of nonlinear and filtering elements in audio signal path, sound becomes over-compressed, which leads to unique distortions, controllable on a source level. Hypnotic, minimal loops become a wall of harmonic-rich noise, which allows for tone selection using equalizers, without relying on 12-tone harmonies.
Video stream is created with use of few hundred dark-future-themed, purpose-made loops, expressing nightmare-like visions of human mind struggling to maintain free will against it's own technology.
Filip Tomaszewski was born in 1982 in Poland, VJ 2002-2007, in 2005 made a degree in electronics, since 2007 lives and works in London.
