Biography

Katarina Niksic, who was born in Croatia in 1956, today lives and works in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, as a freelance author and artist, has two grown sons and believes in God.

The act of creation has become a necessity of life for me. My works are like a planet that rotates around my very life. I employ the free use of colors in my attempts to project my thoughts and emotions onto the canvas. I consciously distance myself from the concretely representational and dive into expressive abstraction with soft shapes that evade intuitive recognition. This leads to a process, a dialogue, the outline of a plot – in the end, an experience of the true self. That is my art.

Harmonic compositions invite the eye to linger meditatively, and once the beholder allows himself to enter into my works, like entering into an actual space, a complex universe emerges, mirroring ideas that revolve around the hidden and mysterious. The whole of this mysticism then unfolds within dominatingly luminous colors.

Niksic's works have been featured in numerous exhibitions across Germany and abroad, and in January of 2009, the artist was a finalist at the international art competition in Stuttgart.
