Biography
Slovakia as Juraj Kollár´s native land personifies to him ties of friendships, family bonds, the bases onto which he has grown. Prague is the city in which he graduated, and regular visits to Paris have been helping him found his proper clarity. The artist feels the need to make the space embracing the painting visible, he is aware of the fact that each picture is the door, or the window opening to an exactly delimited place which enables to look “out“ in the landscape.
A distinctive feature of Kollár´s creation is the work with the strictly defined structure, the grid, a varied connection of smaller square canvases into one whole, from the direct painting of the grid onto the canvas to the author´s new process of painting through the real grid. In Kollár´s works, such a particular structure is a sort of orthogonal (cob)web which alternatively takes the form of purely technical means and/or the determining form of picture.
His works are represented in different national collections, such as Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava, or National Gallery in Prague.
