Biography
The identity of place has become increasingly dissolved by the developments of the modern world. We are spending progressively more time in transit and in non-places and as a result we are becoming more and more removed from place. There is a sense that the idea of place has become more fluid and zones between the real and the virtual are eroding. Our lives are spent in movement between places and in transitory spaces. In a fast paced world I would like to be able to stop for a moment to observe the temporal fragments of the places we experience. My work takes a predictive view of the times we live in- a sprawling city on the brink of turning in on itself, terrain and urban worlds in erosion and no boundaries between the real and cyber places. I want to consider our experiences as we travel between and through places. Our view from a plane or train window separates us from the landscape and cities, we become a viewer. I would like to create work that has a sense of a moment of thought overlain with experience and actual geographical location. In a current world of constant movement and a fast approaching uncertain future.
