CURRICULUM of Teresa Mangiacapra (Niobe)


Since 1970 is a member of the group "The Nemesiache" (from Nemesis, a goddess of Greek mytho-logy), her pen names is Niobe. It's a group of women artists, active and working in Naples at national and international /eve/. In 1977 she constituted the cultural co-operative society "Le Tre Ghinee" (TheTthree Guineas), aimed at asserting the importance for changing the world of the possibility of expression of the feminine. The research activity of the group comes from their close relations with the origins, and their own mythical environment: Naples and the Phlegraean Fields - lands of Sybils, Amazons, Witches, and Sirens. For Niobe, myth is the foundation of her art research, her constant attempt to evoke it through various forms of art: sculpture, photography,picture, drama, music.

Sculpture:

Clay, tufa, plastìc, marble, iron, wood, are the materials used so far;... "The matter, tufa of phlegraean origin, plastic, iron, colors, all converge toward a sort of space-with-no-place, which seems to be situated at the very frontiers of the world, of which we believe we are in possession" (Aldo Trione).
