Biography
Daniela Chionna deals with research and design of furniture and furnishing accessories since 1989. She deepens and experiment, directly in workshops and in design workshops, manufacturing techniques of the materials she works with (wood, iron, clay, stone, glass ....), creating furniture characterized by the union between art and design. In every "creation" you can meet the confluence of different languages and they are reinterpreted according to a personal criterion of contemporaneousness.
Since 2002 she introduces the element light in her works, creating "Quadri e Contenitori di Luce " (a project selected for Salone Satellite 2002-Milano), arousing the remarkable interest of national and international media, and business operators (designers, curators, collectors).
Daniela Chionna assembles, sometimes dismantles, in nobler forms and functions, different from the originals, all that the world creates for other purposes; the "object" is no longer a single piece but an integral part of the ensemble, and it is raised to a new life and a new action, ready to interact with pictorial and matter surfaces; the light will lead the whole work to a new dimension. The “tools” and techniques that characterize her modus operandi, always floating between geometric rigour and gestural expressiveness, reveal a space concept that results in a continuous game of atmospheres, volumes, lacerations and transparencies of the matter itself, in a course where her solutions give clear signals of a theoretical and practical study which focuses on the relation between the object and the space that contains it.
Since 2011 she goes in for a course where light is meant as an "added technological element", giving space to a personal research which aims at exploring, through form and colour, the link between energy, matter-nature, cosmos and places of the self.
