Biography
Isobel Church is a London-based mixed media sculptor and painter, who has recently completed an MA with distinction at the Royal College of Art. Her work sits somewhere between fable and science, fiction and observation. With a background in Anthropology and Chinese art, these explorations draw on symbolic language and mythological landscapes, often relating to the hypnotic aspects of scientific mapping and discovery. Combining traditional techniques with new technologies, many of the works can be described as ceremonial objects that incorporate and meditate on recent data and imagery. Church is interested in how an object can bring the unfathomably large or ancient into the realm of the intimate and familiar, creating tactile connections with that which is vast, distant or ineffable.
