“Sapere Aude" Circuito Off-55ma Biennale d’Arte di Venezia June-November 2013 INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR ENTRIES – DEADLINE MARCH 30 2013
“Sapere Aude”, curated by Prof. Miguel Ángel Cuevas (Siville) under the artistic direction of Adolfina De Stefani e Massimo Casagrande, invites you to partake to the original Group Show that will take place from June to November 2013 in Venice Italy.
This is an international promoting window that will showcase around 20 artists each month and public the participating works in its general catalogue “Sapere Aude” printed and distributed for the occasion. This project will be sponsored and supported by Veneto Region Council, the Province of Venice and it moreover will be programmed with opening events, performances, concerts and readings.
The setting is a sparkling Venice city, which is already vibrating for the 55th edition of the Biennale d’Arte, curated by Massimiliano Gioni. The title chosen by Massimiliano Gioni for the 55th International Art Exhibition is: Il Palazzo Enciclopedico / The Encyclopedic Palace. Massimiliano Gioni introduced the choice of theme evoking the artist self-taught Italian-American Marino Auriti that“on November 16, 1955 filed a design with the US Patent office depicting his Palazzo Enciclopedico (The Encyclopedic Palace), an imaginary museum that was meant to house all worldly knowledge, bringing together the greatest discoveries of the human race, from the wheel to the satellite. Auriti’s plan was never carried out, of course, but the dream of universal, all-embracing knowledge crops up throughout history, as one that eccentrics like Auriti share with many other artists, writers, scientists, and prophets who have tried - often in vain - to fashion an image of the world that will capture its infinite variety and richness
These personal cosmologies, with their delusions of omniscience, shed light on the constant challenge of reconciling the self with the universe, the subjective with the collective, the specific with the general, the individual with the culture of her time.” A fully imaginative scenery of human acknowledgments will back Cueva’s quest about “Sapere Aude”, becoming the spark for the Illuminist manifesto: an excitement about feeding oneself without shame; the need of knowledge, the bravery of using our own intelligence.
To transpose this concept in the Venetian environment, this becomes an invitation to expose and confront with the world without having to bend oneself to the system’s rules and regulations. To express one’s creativity and imagination free from universal contamination and traditional academic schemes. The connection then stems from “pure liberty”. “Liberty to dare” allows a brave artist to express thoughts, styles and art capturing each and every one’s time; reinterpreting through forms and colors dedicated to the language of our souls.
The exposition spaces are still being evaluated. The curators have three choices among which the historic Palace of Ca’ Zanardi, once been the Colussi’s Factory in Venice. The final choice will also depend from the number or artist’s subscriptions confirmed to participate.
The organization in also offering a special prize for the best three artists selected by a jury of curators, critics and journalists. The winners will gain the opportunity to install freely an exposition at the Galleria 3 D situated in Mestre-Venice.
SAPERE AUDE-EXHIBITION SPACE
The Palazzo Cà Zanardi is a historic palace dating back to the 16th century which, over the centuries, has been added on to by various noble venetian families and is one of the most evocative and beautiful palaces in the city of Venice; the Serenissima.
Sumptuous and possessing particular charm, Cà Zanardi is located in a most peaceful setting and has its own delightful private garden as well as a magnificent terrace full of sun and colour. An ideal setting where to live the intimacy and emotions which the city inspires; in a palace reminiscent of the ancient splendours of the Serene Republic of Venice.
For some time Ca' Zanardi, in conjunction with the Venetian Biennale organizes exhibitions and prestigious events in the adjacent space housed in former factory Colussi. An open space of about 400 square meters, ideal site to house the art in its many forms. Among the most important events with over 40,000 visits Tibet include the pavilion of the last Venice Biennale.
Cà Zanardi is located close to the Cà d'Oro, the splendid 15th century gothic palace along the Grand Canal. It is located off the main tourist drag but is still easily reachable by foot, after a two minute walk from the Cà d'Oro water bus stop, or by boat using the palazzo's private pier positioned along the fetching Santa Caterina canal.
HOW TO GET
From the Venice "Marco Polo" Airport: There are various ways to reach Cà Zanardi Palace - with water taxi you can arrive directly to the Ca Zanardi private pier ; - Using the Alilaguna public boat service (blue line) get off at the Fondamente Nuove Stop.
From there walk into the Salizada degli Specchieri and proceed straight through the small square, Campo dei Gesuiti until you reach the street Fondamente Zen . Turn right walk approximately 150 ft and cross the Ca Zanardi bridge along the canal, walk in Calle Zanardi a few feet until you reach Ca' Zanardi Palace (street number 4132).
From Piazzale Roma or the Railway Station take the vaporetto (water bus) n°1 and get off at the Ca doro stop. Exit the small street until you reach the main walkway Strada Nuova. Turn right and proceed for 20 meters, before reaching Campo Santa Sofia, turn left into Calle dei Priuli . Cross the bridge and turn right. Proceed alond Ruga Due Pozzi, cross the S.Andrea bridge and turn left. You'll immediately see the main gate of Ca Zanardi Palace on the left ( Street Number 4132)
